The year is 2150, the month is January. It's a cold, biting winter, but the Arkers were well prepared to face it. Following the eradication of several levels in Mount Weather, the Sky People have returned to Arkadia to resume building a safe place for them to live. Forced to move forward without her daughter, Chancellor Abigail Griffin is taking charge of both Arkers thriving in Arkadia and the few Mountain People that remain in Mount Weather. She is in peaceful relations with the Grounders, and for the two months following the Mount Weather incident, everything has been fine. Little does she know, danger is lurking in unlikely places, and threats from both the Ice Nation and Mount Weather are about to force the progress made to a screeching halt.

I am selfish I am wrong I am right, I swear I'm right Swear I knew it all along and I am flawed But I am cleaning up so well I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself
It was well past the first week of classes. There was absolutely no reason for this bullshit to keep happening. And yet, here she was, standing in the IT office, arguing with the guy behind the desk. Again. It was probably a daily occurrence by now. It was a miracle they hadn't gone out for coffee or something. Oh, yea, except for the fact that he was a total fucking idiot. How on Earth he was still employed in the IT office was completely beyond her because every single time she came in here, he was sitting behind that desk, doing nothing. Not to mention the serious lack of solving her problem he was doing.

"Are you. FUCKING. Kidding me!" Octavia's voice grew louder and louder with each word, carrying down the hallway. She planted the palm of her hand flat against the surface of the desk as she leaned in towards the guy who worked in IT. She wondered if he was the only one. Maybe that was why she was having such issues, and why those issues weren't getting resolved. "It is the start. Of week three. And you still have NOT fixed. My damn email account!" Octavia inhaled deeply, trying to keep herself from straight up punching this guy in his stupid face.

Exhaling, she looked at him, fire in her eyes. "Okay, look," her voice was scarily calm as she stared him down. "If this isn't fixed by tomorrow, you can bet your ass I'm going to find out who you report to and go so far over your head, you won't see it coming when they fire your dumb ass." There was no way anyone listening would think Octavia was having a good day. She wasn't. This whole problem with her school email account was really setting her back - she couldn't even log into the school's website because it needed you to access your email account. She was lucky that most of her professors were understanding of the technical issues she seemed to be facing.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Asshole." Rolling her eyes, she made to walk out the door. When she turned, she found a blonde standing there, blocking her path. For a moment, Octavia just eyed the girl - she looked a little on the tired side, but she was pretty. She looked like she would be Bellamy's type. Well, if he had a type other than: hot, female, and has tits. Despite the sort of deer-in-the-headlights look she had going on, Octavia found her intriguing. Stepping up to the blonde, Octavia turned the other girl away from the incompetent IT guy and led her out into the hallway. "He won't be able to help you. Trust me." Standing in the hallway, she pulled her hand she'd used to lead the blonde out of the IT room away from the girl before holding it out to shake. "I'm Octavia."

Jackson had said he would help her with ProQuest, and really, Clarke knew she should have just gone to him with her issue…. But after being so sure she could figure it out on her own, and not being able to at all, she didn’t want to look like an idiot showing up at his place asking how to complete what was likely the simplest of tasks. So she figured that if she took her laptop to IT, they could solve her issues for her, and then the next time she showed up at study group, it would look like Clarke just figured it out on her own. Foolproof plan.

Clarke was almost to the IT office, laptop shoved in the messenger bag bouncing off of her hip, when a series of profanities and yelling drifted into the hallway. It was enough to slow her walk into a hesitant, slow step. Maybe now wasn’t the best time to go in there… She didn’t quite stop, not yet, but as the blonde neared the door, her pace was that of an uncertain tortoise. It sounded like a girl, likely a student having her own issues, and those issues were not going well. Something about an e-mail?

Curiosity took over and Clarke found her feet continuing forward for her. She had just finally entered the doorway, when suddenly a girl- whom she could only assume was the source of all of the yelling- nearly collided into her. It wasn’t until the brunette took another step closer to her that Clarke even realized she had just been standing in the middle of the doorway, just staring at this girl. She wasn’t even sure why she was staring… Obviously she was stunning, which could likely have been the reason, or that she had overheard much of her conversation and now felt like she had just been caught eavesdropping… Which wasn’t the case, she hadn’t meant to…

But apparently she wasn’t mad, because the next thing Clarke knew, there was a hand on her arm and she was being led out of the office in a state of confusion. “Are you sure?” she couldn’t help but ask, glancing over her shoulder at the very pissed-looking IT guy. But by now, the two of them were already in the hallway and the girl was releasing her arm, holding it out to her. Clarke took the girl’s hand, giving it a quick shake, “Clarke.” A smile forming naturally on her lips with the greeting, she added on “that’s a unique name, I can’t say I’ve met anyone named Octavia before.” Although plenty had said the same about her name, considering it was more common for guys. Clarke had heard all of the jokes before. But Octavia was a classic, pretty name. “So uh, do you have anyone else you’d recommend…? For computer stuff?” She wanted to trust the girl’s opinion on the IT guy, but that didn’t change the fact that Clarke still needed the help.

"Oh yea. I'm positive." If ever there was bitterness in someone's voice, it was right then, as Octavia spoke. That damn IT guy was her absolute least favorite person on the entire planet. "He couldn't help you if his LIFE DEPENDED ON IT." As she yelled the last few words, she leaned away from the blonde, back towards the doorway they had just come through. She wanted to make sure he heard her. Again.

Rolling her eyes, she returned her focus to the blonde as they shook hands. Replacing her irritation with a mostly real smile, she let out a small huff of laughter. "Thanks. Can't say I've met many girl's named Clarke, either." Octavia had a hint of a smirk on her face as she spoke, knowing full well that Clarke probably got that comment quite frequently. It seemed like the most natural thing to say to a girl named Clarke, after all. At least her name wasn't something ridiculous. Like Glass. Or Apple. At least Clarke had parents who seemed to love her enough to give her a decent name.

"For computer stuff?" Octavia raised an eyebrow at Clarke. There were so many different issues that could fall into the category of "computer stuff" that Octavia wouldn't even know where to begin in recommending someone. Was it some kind of hardware issue? Software issue? Or maybe it was just that she couldn't figure out how to get a certain thing to work a certain way. "Like what kind of computer stuff? 'Cause that asshole in there is seriously useless." Using her thumb, she pointed back over her shoulder to where the IT guy had probably gone back to looking at porn or something.

With a small shrug of her shoulder, she began walking down the hallway. As she passed Clarke, she linked her arm through the other girl's. Somehow, it just felt natural. 'There are a couple of classrooms downstairs." She turned her head slightly to look at the blonde walking along beside her. "I'm sure we could charm one of the guys down there into helping you out." Octavia waggled her eyebrows mischievously at Clarke before winking. Her time spent working in the bar gave her more than enough experience getting guys to do things for her, and, hey, if it helped out someone in need of some assistance, even better.

Whatever has transpired between this girl and the IT guy, it had really pissed her off; the bitterness alone in the brunette’s tone was enough to make Clarke empathetically mad at him as well, even if she didn't know why. Either way, if that jerk had pissed the girl off that much, she would take her word for it and avoid him. The last thing Clarke needed right now was to be pissed off as well. She was seeking help from these people because she didn't want to bother someone, why complicate it even further by trying to get help from someone who had no clue what they were doing? Resigning to her decision to avoid tech services, Clarke followed the feisty brunette out, glancing one more time back at the guy behind the desk who was flipping them his middle finger.

With the predicted response, Clarke gave a shrug, a faint smile pulling at the corners of her lips. "Can't say I have either," she joked softly, even if it was true. "It was my father's father's name," she found herself explaining; unsure why, considering Octavia hadn't even asked. Maybe she just didn't want her thinking her parents were some weirdos just trying to be trendy. "My dad wanted to pass on the name and didn't want to wait for a potential son." Which ended up being a good thing, considering Clarke never ended up having any siblings. She had never met her grandfather, but she liked that she carried a piece of him with her, and a piece of her father. And it wasn't as if she disliked her name either; the only time it even bothered her was the first day of every class where the teacher consistently assumed she would be a boy and never failed to make some sort of surprised comment to hide their stereotyped assumption.

The blonde opened her mouth to elaborate what type of 'computer stuff' she needed help with, but the promptly closed it. "You know what, I can probably figure it out," she said with a shrug, scrunching half of her face as if it really wasn't that big of a deal. It would be too much to explain anyway.... Clarke knew she would only embarrass herself by admitting she didn't know how to use the simplest of programs and even worse was that she had already been shown how once and had forgotten, hence why she couldn't go back to her friend for advice. Plus appearing as an idiot to Octavia was the same as appearing an idiot to Jackson, so really there was no point admitting any of that. She'd just find someone else to help her. Or maybe google it.

Suddenly Octavia's arm was around her’s and Clarke was stumbling after her down the hall. At first the element of surprise threw her off guard; they had just met, she didn't expect the other girl to be so friendly or even want to continue a conversation that Clarke had assumed was finished. But the Clarke never really had many female friends, platonic ones at least... Assuming the action was supposed to be platonic? It would be nice to make a few in college. While Clarke knew she could talk to Murphy about anything, she couldn't talk to him about everything. Not entirely sure just what she was supposed to do in this sort of situation, Clarke went with the flow and curved her arm a bit to link with Octavia's as she followed her, to the downstairs apparently.

At Octavia's suggestion at a solution, Clarke let out a curt laugh. "I'm sure you could charm one," the girl was like a model, the kind you see in fashion magazines minus the height. She had no doubt Octavia could charm anyone into doing anything. Except apparently that IT guy… Clarke on the other hand, did not possess these 'charming' skills. Murphy would tell her that when she drank she was more flirtatious, but Clarke had no idea how to channel that into reality. Half the time she didn't even realize someone was flirting with her until they made it blatantly obvious. She could use facts and persuasion to get her way, sure, but charming someone and flirting with them was not exactly her forte. "It's fine, really," she said, reiterating her decision to give up. "It's not like it was all that important," or couldn't be solved by several other people.

Octavia tilted her head slightly to one side, the opposite eyebrow lifting at the same moment. She looked like she was actually interested in what Clarke had to say, even if it seemed like such a small, mundane thing. Nodding once or twice, she gave the explanation a sort of approval. Not that it needed one, of course. "That's neat. I never knew my father." She wasn't saying it to bring attention to herself or make the blonde feel awkward, she was just stating a fact, adding a piece to the conversation.

Leading Clarke down the hall to an elevator, she pressed a button. It would be far easier than walking down the stairs. Besides, with the sour mood the IT guy had put her in, she deserved to be a little bit lazy. Glancing sideways at Clarke, she gave her a look that seemed to scream "girl, please." If it wasn't that important, she wouldn't have come all the way down to the tech building. The elevator beeped, the light flashing signalling it was going down. Octavia stepped in and pulled Clarke along with her. It was empty except for the two of them. Octavia pressed the button and watched as the doors shut.

"It'll just be easier to solve the issue now, y'know." The sound of a smirk was settled into her voice as she spoke. Shifting her weight from one hip to the other, she sighed softly. "This has got to be the slowest goddamn elevator in this whole school." There was a hint of irritation in her voice as she commented on the elevator's speed. She was wrong, though, the slowest elevator on campus was probably the one in the dorms, but she'd never actually been in that building.

The doors opened onto a dimly lit hallway with no windows. It probably looked like something out of a horror movie to most people, but it was just where the computer labs happened to be. Octavia was pretty sure the Digital Media students never left this computer cave. Pulling Clarke with her, Octavia stepped out of the elevator and into the hallway. "Won't worry, it always looks this sketchy down here. What are you studying?" Octavia swapped topics of conversation like it wasn't a big deal. Really, it wasn't, though, she would admit that the first time she'd come down here, she had been thoroughly creeped out.

The way Octavia stated the fact about her father threw Clarke completely off guard. Had her arm not been linked with the other girl’s, she probably would have stopped in her tracks. Not that it was some horribly shocking bit of information; Clarke knew like three facts about this girl total. But it was a pretty intense fact that she just blatantly stated as if naming her favorite color. “I’m sorry…” she stated softly, glancing over at Octavia with her brows knit lightly in sympathy. She wasn’t even sure why she was saying it; Clarke hated when people said it to her because she was never sure how to actually respond to a statement like that… But the words slipped out anyway, unsure of what else to say. “My dad’s…” the words came out before Clarke had even thought of what to say. She wasn’t trying to compete with the girl for sympathy, just trying to empathize with her, but somehow she was getting the wording all wrong. “He’s not here anymore either.” Still.. at least Clarke had known her father; gotten to spend time with him, loved him, been raised by him… She couldn’t imagine not ever knowing her father at all. Or would it be better to not know them? This way you didn’t realize just how much you missed them?

It was clear Octavia didn’t believe her about her question for IT being ‘nothing’, and now they were descending to the lower level in an elevator, going to see who knew… And now Clarke would just have to ask her completely stupid question in front of even more people. And what was worse; Octavia was going through all of this trouble and would find out it was just a stupid question anyway. “Umm, yea, I mean that’s true… It’s not really a big deal or anything though, it’s not like I’m in a rush…” It was clear she wouldn’t believe Clarke that she didn’t have a problem, so maybe she could just play it off as unimportant…

When they exited the elevator, Clakre realized she’d never been down here before…. And for the first time, she questioned if she really should have trusted Octavia…. After all, she didn’t know the girl, and clearly she had a temper… And now she had brought Clarke into the dark, empty underground of the school….. The blonde contemplated taking a step away, but Octavia still had her arm. Almost as if reading her mind, the brunette attempted to assuage her fears. “Is that supposed to make me worry less?” Would it be even more worrisome if it wasn’t’ always like this, but suddenly now it was?

The change in topic was so sudden that Clarke had almost missed the question entirely, still focused on the fact that there was a good chance she might be murdered within the next ten minutes. “Oh, pre-med. Freshman,” she paused and waited for the ‘obviously’ comment that seemed to follow that declaration lately with everyone else she spoke to. Was it really that obvious? “What about you? What year are you?”

The apology wasn't unexpected. It happened far more often than Octavia had the patience to have ever counted. She used to say thank you or something to that affect, but it had gotten old quick. Now she just let people apologize cause it seemed to make them feel better about themselves. The way Clarke started about her own dad, Octavia felt like she knew exactly what the girl was going to say before she could say it. Dead. The word was waiting to be released into the air. And yet, it never came. Clarke chose a much softer way to explain it, and Octavia felt one corner of her mouth tug upwards at the girl's words. Not because she was happy Clarke's father was dead, oh GOD no, but because it was basically adorable the way she'd chosen to describe it. "That sucks." She didn't apologize. "I've got an older brother, so..." she trailed off, shrugged gently. "What was your dad like?" Clearly, Octavia wasn't one for small talk, skipping right to the deep stuff.

"C'mon. You came all the way down here. Might as well have someone take a look." Octavia let out a short burst of a laugh. It would be really ridiculous for Clarke to have come down here just to go home without even talking to someone about the problem. Hopefully it would get solved, unlike Octavia's email issue that seemed to be persisting for literally forever.

Turning to look at Clarke, Octavia gave her a smile that probably made it all even worse. There was a mischievous glint in her eyes as she pulled the blonde further into the dimness. One of the lights overhead flickered as they passed underneath it. If they didn't turn this place into a haunted house at halloween, they were doing something wrong, that was for sure. She had to suppress at laugh at the way the hallway just seemed to get creepier and creepier with each step. "Depends. Did it work?" Her lips curled into a shit-eating grin as she stopped in front of one of the doors and peered through the tiny window.

"Pre-med? That's really neat." She moved on to the next door and peered through the window just like she had at the first one. "So you've got your whole life planned out or something?" Turning away from the door she eyed Clarke. She looked mostly well-put-together. "I'm currently in the field of undecided. Taking a bunch of gen ed classes. Also a freshman." Turning the handle of the door, Octavia pulled it open and dragged Clarke in with her. The room was full, a guy - except for two girls chatting quietly in the opposite corner - at every computer. The nearest guy looked up, his jaw all but dropping open at the sight of two girls having entered the room.

Octavia winked at the guy. He blushed furiously and ducked his head back down, pretending like nothing had just happened. With a half-chuckle, Octavia pulled Clarke through the room to a kid on the far side. "Hey, Sterling. You're not too busy, are ya?" There was a hint of flirtatiousness in her voice as she leaned over the kid's desk. "This is my friend Clarke. She's got a problem. Figured maybe you could help her out?" The way she spoke was so utterly different than the way she'd been cussing at the IT guy upstairs - she was all sugar and seduction now.

Despite it being completely inappropriate, Clarke found herself letting out a quickly stifled laugh at her comment, attempting to push the smile back into sobriety immediately after. It wasn’t even as if it was funny, but just the blunt ‘that sucks’ response that unexpectedly came from her mouth described the situation so much more than anything else Clarke had heard before. And it was so much better than the lame ‘I’m sorry’ automatic response… Everyone was sorry, but that didn’t change the situation. It just sucked and that’s all that could be said about it. “It does,” Clarke gave a nod of agreement; both for her situation, and Octavia’s.

As a child, Clarke had wished she had an older brother, even so much as asking her mother for one, not exactly understanding the logic behind that one. She wondered how different her life would be if she had a sibling. “He was the best,” Clarke couldn’t help but grin with the sentence, even if guilt nipped at her for bragging about her own father when Octavia hadn’t even had the chance to have one. For a moment, she hesitated, not wanting to continue for that very reason, but with the green eyes expectantly on her, Clarke continued. “I was always very close with him; he worked a lot, but when he didn’t he would always take me somewhere, like the park, or a baseball game, or teach me to ride my bike…” the grin subsided into a soft smile as the memories played through her mind.

“Sort of, yea. I mean, my career at least.” Clarke had a twelve-step plan for everything involving her future medical career. Beyond that… She had no idea. If she focused on her career though, she figured the rest would fall into place. Lucky for Clarke, becoming a doctor took years and years…. So she had a long road ahead. A smile lit up her face upon hearing Octavia was a freshman too. She looked young enough, but acted like she knew what she was doing, so it was difficult to tell. “Do you know what you want to go for? Or just kind of… seeing what there is?” There was no shame in being undecided; it didn’t usually mean someone had no idea what they wanted to do, Clarke found that more often than not, it meant they had too many things they wanted to do.

They walked into the room and suddenly all eyes were on them, causing Clarke to just stop and stare. Was it because they were new? “Hi…” she said awkwardly right before being pulled away by Octavia. They both walked over to a small blonde kid who was grinning up at Octavia like a lovesick puppy. When the brunette introduced her, Clarke gave a small wave in greeting. The smile only lasted a minute before it disappeared into anxiety when she remembered that they were here to fix her computer. There was nothing wrong with her computer though… She just needed to know how to use the ProQuest system, and this entire room was full of computer geeks and they would all silently judge her for not knowing how to use the simplest of programs…. “Right…” she said softly, reaching into her messenger bag and pulling out her laptop, using the time to think of some sort of excuse. “Umm my uh, virus scan thing isn’t working… I think I have a virus.” Clarke placed the laptop in front of Sterling, although she wasn’t sure what he would do about it… In truth, she didn’t even know if she had a virus scanning program.

"That sounds like a great time. My brother was kinda like that for me. We were always really close. Still are - though, we kinda see each other less now we're both at Ark U." She shrugged nonchalantly. "What's your favorite memory of your dad?" Octavia was serious about the deep, personal questions. Besides, it was nice to get to know Clarke in a real way, not a "so what do you think about the weather" sort of way. You never really got to know a person until you started asking the tough questions.

Octavia gave Clarke an approving nod - not that she needed the approval, Octavia just liked the idea of having one's career figured out. "That's pretty impressive. I've met loads of people in their like... forties or something that still haven't gotten their careers figured out. Good for you." Octavia was so far on the other end of the spectrum, it was almost hilarious. She let out a soft snort of laughter at Clarke's question. "Mostly trying a few things out, but... I dunno. Figuring out your whole life when you're eighteen seems kinda bonkers. At least for someone like me. How am I supposed to know what I want if I haven't tried everything. Y'know? School needs to be like an ice cream shop: They should give me free samples of all the flavors so I can pick which one I actually like and go with that." It was probably the tail end of her sentence, at that volume, that had drawn the attention of nearly all the guys in the classroom. Octavia didn't mind, she was more or less used to being stared at.

Leaning over Sterling's shoulder, Octavia glanced at the screen of Clarke's laptop. Sterling clicked a few times, going through several folders. "I'm not seeing any anti-virus software on here. That's probably the issue." Turning his head, he looked up at Clarke with a semi-amused look on his face. "You want me to install one for you?" Octavia turned her gaze from the laptop screen to Clarke, slipping an eyebrow upwards gently. She was trying to subtly ask Clarke if she liked Sterling, but she wasn't completely sure they were at that level of communication yet - the whole psychic link sort of friendship; Octavia always wanted to have that with someone.

Settling her hand onto Sterling's shoulder, she gave it a gentle squeeze. He turned to glance up at her, she smiled down at him before turning her gaze back to Clarke. "Clarke's a pre-med student. Neat, huh?" There was no mocking in her tone - she really did think it was cool - rather, it sounded more like she was trying to impress Sterling with her new friend.

hooked on a feeling
Despite not knowing this girl at all, Clarke felt an odd sense of comfort that her brother had filled the fatherly position for her, in a way. It wasn’t easy; growing up lacking in one parental figure or the other, or both. There was just a special something that each brought to the table. She was glad that Octavia still had that in a way, despite never meeting her father. “You both go to the same school? That’s good though, right?” Ironic that they saw each other less despite that, but Clarke supposed that was the way college was. It definitely kept you busy. Despite living with Murphy, she felt like she didn’t see him all that much either.

The dad question brought another smile to Clarke’s lips; this time she didn’t try as hard to repress it. “I guess… I’m not sure if it’s a favorite, its hard to choose, but this one time? For my mom’s birthday, we were going to surprise her by making a cake… My dad was a pretty amazing cook, but not exactly a skilled baker. He wasn’t horrible, just not his forte. And I’m… Well, I am horrible,” Clarke gave a soft chuckle; she did not inherit her father’s cooking skills. “But we still wanted to do it for her, together. So he let me help, and I poured in the ingredients he told me to, and I was in charge of mixing it. So I took the egg beater thing, thinking that was how I could get the lumps out of the flour-sugar-baking powder combo…. I mean, keep in mind I was like eight…” she glanced over to Octavia, giving a somewhat embarrassed look. “Well, that’s when I learned you’re not supposed to mix just the dry ingredients. They flew everywhere; all over me, my dad, the kitchen… Everything was covered in a white dust.” Clarke gave a soft laugh at the memory. “I stared at my dad in horror thinking he was going to yell at me. Instead, he reached into the bag of flour and threw a handful of it at me. Immediately it turned into a flour-fight… Everything was covered by the time my mom came home. She just stared at us and my dad went ‘Happy birthday?’ and threw a handful of flour at her too.” Clarke gave another chuckle, remembering the way her mother looked so angry before dissolving into laughter, silenced only by her father’s kiss. “After we cleaned it all up, we took her out for ice-cream instead. Less messy.” She wasn’t entirely sure if that was her favorite memory, but it was always one that had stood out… Although Clarke wasn’t even sure why she was telling her all of this…. But she liked talking about her father, she liked remembering him.

“My mom’s a doctor, I guess I just always looked up to her… I always assumed I would be one too…” Even as a kid, Clarke had played ‘doctor’ with her stuffed animals and baby dolls. There was never a time when she questioned what she wanted to become. Never until recently as her courseload was burying her in her first semester… But she knew it was more common for students to not know what they wanted to do; how could they if they never even got the opportunity to try things out? It seemed Octavia shared that sentiment and Clarke listened attentively to her mini-speech, nodding along in complete agreement. “You should mention that to the School Board,” she suggested, not sure how doable a thing that was or not. “They should have something like that. Where students can sample different majors, maybe do short work-study programs to get a feel for the different careers out there.” It was a good idea and frankly, Clarke wasn’t sure why most schools didn’t just do that.

Clarke watched as Sterling looked around on her laptop, biting her bottom lip subconsciously to divert her nerves. She tried not to let the embarrassment play on her face when he looked back at her, stating the obvious. “There’s not? Maybe it got deleted?” Or maybe she had no idea how to even install it. “Yea, sure, that would be great,” she replied with a nod. “Thank you.” Clarke caught Octavia’s gaze out of her peripheral; the girl was giving her some sort of questioning look, in which Clarke met with a furrowed brow of confusion, squinting her eyes for a moment in a silent what? And then Octavia was telling Sterling about her degree as well, which only deepened the confusion. “Uh, yea,” she agreed with Octavia- not the ‘neat’ part, but about being a pre-med student. “First year though, so it’s not really all that exciting…” It was mostly just a bunch of core curriculum classes and a few electives, she wouldn’t get to the good stuff until later. But it’s not like Sterling would care about any of that.

I am selfish I am wrong I am right, I swear I'm right Swear I knew it all along and I am flawed But I am cleaning up so well I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself
"Mmhmmm," Octavia hummed the confirmation as she nodded her head lightly. "I live in our house off campus. He lives on campus. So I don't really see him every day." Again, she shrugged, like it wasn't really a big deal. "We rent out like half the house to Ark U students. It's a great way to make some money while we're both in school, y'know?" She hadn't explained to Clarke that it was just her and her brother - their mother had passed away a few years ago. It was easier to ask Clarke about her father than it was to talk about her own mother, which wasn't really surprising, but it made her wonder how long ago Clarke had lost her father. That was a question she intended to avoid. At least for now.

As Clarke told the story of her memory, Octavia couldn't help but to laugh at all the most hilarious parts - the egg beater used to mix the dry ingredients, the flour war, the look on Clarke's mothers face when she came home... It was all so great. "That sounds like a lot of fun." Her voice was genuine as she looked at Clarke with an amused smile on her lips. The way Clarke's face lit up as she told the story, Octavia wondered how frequently people avoided the subject of the dead father to spare her some feelings or whatever bullshit excuse they'd come up with to feel good about themselves. "Your dad sounds like he was a really great person." She chose not to tack on the fact that she probably would have liked to meet him. It probably would have been too weird.

"If I could get the school board to do anything, I wouldn't be having issues with my school email account still." The irritation was creeping into her voice as she thought about the problems she was having - the reason she had been in this building in the first place. "Man, fuck that IT douche canoe," she said with an eye roll, a hint of loathing in her voice.

"Sure thing, Clarke." The way he said her name, it was like he was rolling around his mouth, savoring it. Or maybe he was just trying to commit it to memory. Octavia rolled her eyes behind his back, laughter shining in her eyes. As he worked on installing the program, Octavia moved closer to Clarke, behind Sterling, and bumped the blonde lightly with her hip. Once she had the other girl's attention, she lifted her eyebrows inquisitively as she nodded her head towards Sterling. Do you think he's cute? It was all but on her lips, seriously. Maybe Clarke had just never learned girl sign language. That was alright: Octavia would teach her if she had to. How else would they communicate across a bar or at a club or a party. "Pre-med's cool. I'm studying computer science. Third year." Sterling's comments were directed at Clarke - Octavia already knew all of this.

After a few minutes, he handed the laptop back to Clarke, a smile on his face. "Here you go." Octavia gave him a quick wink as she turned to go, but the sound of Sterling's voice stopped her. "Oh, hey, I noticed you had ProQuest open. If you're not on the library's wifi, you need to go to a different log-in page. I'll shoot you an email with the link." He gave the blonde a quick wink before turning back to his computer. "See you later, Octavia."

"[b]See ya, Sterling." She let the words drop from her lips heavily, the sound of her flirting unmistakable. And yet, she didn't look back, just grabbed Clarke by the hand to lead her back out into the dim hallway. Once the door shut behind her, she turned to Clarke as asked simply, "You hungry? I'm fucking starving. C'mon." Again, she dragged Clarke to the elevator, more than ready to leave this building and get some food. Maybe a burger. Or tacos.

hooked on a feeling
“That’s so cool…” she said with piqued interest at the idea of renting out the house to other Ark U students. Clarke wondered if it was those who couldn’t quite afford the housing on campus, or maybe they didn’t get into the dorms… Either way, it sounded smart for her and fortunate for the people looking for rooms. But then another thought popped into her mind; was it just Octavia living there? Aside from the renters of course. What about her mother? Or any other family? The blonde’s lips parted slightly, hesitation keeping the words inside. For someone so blunt, she figured if she wanted to mention something like that, she would have. Maybe it was more complicated than Clarke thought… So she decided to drop the question for now, opting to pick it up if a different opportunity arose.

It was hard not to smile when talking about her dad, and it was even more difficult to suppress it when he was receiving a compliment. She was proud of her father. He was a really great person; one taken far too soon and not given nearly enough opportunity. “Yea… he was,” she nodded, softening her smile. After a hesitant pause, Clarke looked over at the brunette beside her. “Thanks…” she said softly, a pinch of shyness in her tone before it disappeared completely. It was a thank you for the compliment, sure, but mostly for asking… For making her think about her father and for caring enough to hear a complete stranger babble on about her dad.

Laughter bubbled from her lips as Octavia brought up the horrible IT guy again. “True,” she agreed with a shrug and a nod. “I’ll see if I know anyone who might be able to help.” She didn’t. But while Clarke couldn’t use her charms to get what she wanted, she did know how to argue her way into getting things she wanted, and considering how much Octavia was helping her right now, Clarke figured she owed her. Maybe later she’d go straight to administration to speak directly with the higher-ups about fixing her e-mail.

As Sterling continued to install the program, Clarke watched over his shoulder, having no clue what he was doing. Her gaze was pulled away when she was lightly thrown off balance by Octavia’s hip, turning to look over at the girl with curiosity. As the other girl’s perfect eyebrows went up, Clarke’s went down in confusion. But finally, with the added nod towards Sterling and more eyebrows, the blonde finally caught on, letting her mouth drop open in a silent oh. Blue eyes darting momentarily to the back of the boy’s head before returning right back to Octavia, she mouthed the word Sterling? in surprise, despite knowing that’s exactly who she was talking about. Honestly, Clarke hadn’t really considered it, or him, before. She leaned slightly to get a better look at him but still, she could only see the side of his face. Giving up, she looked back over at Octavia and gave an undecided shrug. He seemed cute, and she liked his smile, if she was remembering correctly from a moment ago. Although she barely knew the kid.

He handed the laptop over to her and Clarke realized she had been right about the smile. “Thanks…” she said with a smile, now a bit softer and shyer than before with the question of interest now hanging in the air. Shoving her computer back in her bag, Clarke went to turn when the boy spoke up again, causing her to freeze at the word ProQuest for no other reason than the fact that she had been worrying about it earlier. But her muscles quickly relaxed as his advice toppled out and a genuine smile replaced the shy one from a moment ago. “Wow, thanks,” she said in appreciation, glad to finally have her puzzle solved. “I’ll have to try that next time.” Now she wouldn’t have to question anyone else.

Clarke felt a smile fighting against her tightened lips after the wink, and she mumbled out a quick “bye” before turning to join Octavia. Before she could say anything, the other girl was already onto the next subject of interest. Clarke wasn’t entirely sure if she was really curious if Clarke was hungry, or if it was merely a courtesy considering she was already being dragged off toward the elevator, but either way, she could use something to eat. Plus Octavia was pretty cool to hang out with. “I owe you for all of this,” she said, patting her laptop that now had two resolved problems on it. “My treat, whatever we end up eating,” it was the least she could do, other than helping get Octavia’s email fixed.

As they stood, waiting for the elevator, Octavia gave Clarke an expectant look. The only words that came, though, were that she owed Octavia for this. Which was complete bullshit. Octavia had decided they were friends, and friends did that sort of thing for one another, right? Then again, she could never turn down the offer of someone buying her food, either. Maybe she should just accept the offer as some sort of sacrifice to their brand new budding friendship. "Great. Thanks. Anything you don't eat?" Letting eye eyes drift over the girl, really taking in the sight of her and her outfit this time, she tried to determine, based just on looks, how picky Clarke was. It was useless; she had absolutely no idea.

The elevator opened and Octavia pulled Clarke in with her. "Okay, but seriously, Clarke." After pressing the button for the main floor, she turned to her new friend and crossed her arms over her chest. "Are you interested in Sterling, 'cause I can totally hook you guys up. He's a good guy. Not bad in bed, either." She winked at the blonde playfully, nudging Clarke's shoulder with her own. "He was totally into you." Her eyes moved away from Clarke as the elevator dinged and the doors opened.

Linking her arm with Clarke's, Octavia exited the elevator and made for the main doors. "Sorry. I forgot to ask if you're even single. Or, y'know. Into men." She had started out at a fairly quick pace, but slowed her steps to accommodate for the fact that she was walking along beside someone. "Whatever you're into is cool. Personally, I'm only into guys, but I flirt with my fair share of women, too. I work in a bar, after all. Flirting is how you get the best tips. Oh, and I'm mostly single." It seemed only fair to provide the information she was asking of Clarke. She wasn't going to just ask and then not share her own answers - that would have been stupidly selfish on her part.

Pushing through the doors, Octavia led Clarke to a car parked on the street. "This is mine. Get in." Letting go of the blonde's arm, Octavia moved around to the other side of the car and hopped into the driver's seat. "Alright. Pick a number: six or fifty-four." She glanced over at Clarke as she put the key into the ignition and started the car. Glancing around the car, she pulled away from the curb and started driving. It was a good thing both of the places she had in mind were in the same direction. Now all she needed was for Clarke to pick a number to determine which one they were going to.

hooked on a feeling
Clarke's blue eyes drifted toward the ceiling as she searched her mind for anything she didn't like. "I don't think so? I'll try most things. Although I'm not really into that whole vegan food thing," she liked real meat and real cheese and honestly some of the fancy vegan dishes weirded her out.... "But I mean, if you're into it, I'll definitely try it," she added on quickly, not wanting to insult Octavia's life choices or anything just because she didn't like it. "I'll try anything," she reiterated. Considering her diet mostly consisted of protein bars, fast food, and cafeteria food, the amount of diversity she’d had in a while was limited.

The elevator doors opened and in they went, Clarke still being half-dragged, half walking to keep up with the other girl’s pace. The question that soon followed took her off guard, not expecting those particular words to blurt out of Octavia’s mouth. Although she was quickly learning to expect the unexpected with this girl. “What?” was her automatic reaction, not even sure how she felt let alone what her answer would be. But Clarke didn’t have much time to think because she let out another surprised what?” when Octavia said Sterling was good in bed. Getting out more than that single word seemed to be difficult at the pace Octavia was going, but after her insisting him being into her (how? They talked for like two minutes,) she finally backtracked. “Wait, you guys dated?” she asked curiously, not expecting Octavia to try and set her up with an ex. “And that’s not… weird for you? Hooking us up?” Clarke certainly didn’t want any of her friends dating any of her exes. Although then again, despite how Octavia was currently acting, they had just met… It wasn’t like she could just assume this made them friends.

Before she had a chance to take a step, Octavia’s arm was linked with hers again and they were out the doors. Once more the girl was jumping from sentence to sentence, so this time Clarke just let her finish before attempting to answer. “I’m single, yea…” she answered with a soft laugh under her breath. “I’m into men,” she confirmed with a small nod, “and women. It doesn’t matter to me, as long as I have a connection with the person, you know?” Although that wasn’t to deny she was definitely attracted to both sexes… But it was about more than gender to Clarke. But it’s not like she was about to regale her early high school years to this near-stranger when all she signed up for was a basic answer.

Mostly single?” she asked with a quirked eyebrow, the hint of a smirk playing on her lips. Clarke could only assume that meant she was in some sort of non-serious relationship, although admittedly there was some curiosity.

Clarke followed the near-stranger to her car, something she probably shouldn’t be doing, but she weirdly trusted Octavia… Despite the clear temper, she didn’t get a murder-y vibe from her. As instructed, she hopped into the other side of the vehicle, buckling herself in. Before the blonde could ask where they were going, another question was presented to her. After a moment’s hesitation from being caught off guard, Clarke went for the more exotic of the numbers. “Um, fifty-four…?” she replied with some uncertainty, although definitely curious as to what that meant for this random journey.

Clarke was lucky that Octavia wasn't hugely adventurous when it came to food. Otherwise, she might have been in for a wild ride in which they went to some crazy restaurant neither of them had ever heard of before. If presented with something new, Octavia would probably give it a try, but she wasn't about to just go out and find daring new foods to try. She had favorites, after all, and she was planning on taking Clarke to one of two of them.

The confusion and surprise that the blonde exhibited set Octavia to laughing. At the insinuation that she had dated Sterling, Octavia nearly doubled over as she laughed, still managing to keep walking somehow as she did so. "Dated?! Oh, God no. I screwed him once, but he was looking for something a bit more serious than I was. So I stopped seeing him like that. Didn't want to hurt him or whatever. So nah, it wouldn't be weird," she explained as she chuckled gently, the laughter dying away slowly, leaving behind traces of the mirth on her face as it did so. "But, hey, if it's weird for you, I totally get that." There was no judgement in her voice as she spoke. Some people just weren't into getting with their friends' exes.

"Yea, I get that. Having a connection is important." Well, unless all you wanted was some mindless sex with a stranger - it wasn't typically Octavia's thing, but she'd tried it a couple of times. Octavia didn't know for sure whether or not Clarke would want to be set up with someone - well, she could ask, but she wasn't ready to quite yet - but by being interested in both men and women, she had opened up all the gates. Twice as many opportunities, and Octavia couldn't help the way she smirked. There were a lot of hot girls on her soccer team. Not to mention all the guys she'd met since the start of term. If nothing else, Octavia was going to have a great time trying to figure out Clarke's tastes.

Turning to look at Clarke, Octavia just stared at her for a half a second before grinning sheepishly. "Yea. mostly single. See, there's this guy I've been seeing regularly. Casually, though. Definitely not exclusive. I'm pretty sure he's been seeing other girls anyways. So, yea. Mostly single." She shrugged lightly as she tried to explain her current relationship with Atom. She found that she really liked him, but she wasn't sure the feeling was mutual - or if he was just scared of her brother.

As Clarke offered one of the two choices, Octavia smirked smugly. After only a couple of minutes in the car, she was pulling into the parking lot of a small Mexican restaurant. Across the street was the diner - the other option she'd offered to Clarke. "Good choice." She winked at her shiny new friend as she parked the car and hopped out. "They have the best Mexican I've literally ever had here."

She walked into the restaurant and was greeted like an old friend - she clearly came here regularly. It payed off, though: they two of them were seated quickly in a booth next to a window. Octavia didn't even need to open the menu: she knew exactly what she was going to get already. "So, hey, what made you choose Ark U?" Crossing her arms over the table, she leaned in towards Clarke, listening attentively.
